REGISTRATION: Every registered team must submit the name and email address or optional phone number of a volunteer to act as a team representative for as long as their team participates in the tournament.

FORMAT: This will be a double elimination tournament. Games will consist of two teams of three players. Games will last 10 minutes each or until the first team scores 5 goals. Goal size will equal one bike length.*

RULES: The rules governing the Bluegrass State Games Hardcourt Bike Polo Tournament are as follows:

Game Play - Players’ feet may not touch the ground, or “Foot Down”. “Foot Down” requires a player to IMMEDIATELY take themselves out of play and touch the designated Foot Down area or object before rejoining play. Goalies are allowed and rotation of the goalie position during play is encouraged. A player may not use his or her feet to play the ball in any way.

Scoring - Goals must be made from what started as a hit from the end of a player’s mallet. Shuffles do not count as goals. Balls that pass backwards through the goal must be passed to at least one other player before a goal attempt is made. Deflections will count as goals as long as the hit originated from the end of a player’s mallet.

Etiquette - NO mallet throwing of any kind will be allowed during game play. Only “Like Contact” will be allowed; bike to bike, mallet to mallet, body to body. No grabbing, holding or pushing with hands will be allowed. No mallet hacking unless a player has or is attempting play of the ball.

These are generally accepted rules for hardcourt bike polo, and may vary from city to city. The BSG Bike Polo Tournament will be played according to the above.

EQUIPMENT: Participants are encouraged to supply their own bikes and mallets, but there may be opportunities to borrow spare bikes or mallets depending on the circumstance – however, DO NOT RELY ON THIS. Players may use any type of bicycle. All bicycles must have plugged handlebar ends. All mallet shaft ends must be capped or plugged. All participants MUST wear a helmet during tournament play in order to compete.

AGE: Age as of July 24, 2010.
