2020 BGSG Torch Run

Although #BGSG2020 is cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we still want to encourage Kentuckians to be active and offer the #BGSG community an opportunity to come together and celebrate the event’s 35thanniversary on August 2.

We are re-introducing the Bluegrass State Games Torch Run … as a virtual challenge.

Challenge yourself to run, walk, or bike a total of 35 miles – one for every year of the Bluegrass State Games – by our anniversary on August 2.

Participation is free so we would love to see as many past, present and future BGSG athletes get involved as possible.

Donations will be accepted and are greatly appreciated and those of $25 or more will receive a commemorative BGSG Torch Run t-shirt and finisher’s medal.

EVENT DATE: Whenever you want it to be (on or before August 2)

VENUE: Wherever you want it to be

FREE or make a donation of $25 or more and receive a special BGSG Torch Run T-Shirt and Finisher’s Medal

On August 2, 1985, Governor Martha Layne Collins opened the inaugural Bluegrass State Games to encourage physical fitness and amateur competition among Kentuckians.

35 years later, the Bluegrass State Games’ mission is still the same … providing our citizens with a source of athletic competition for recreation, health, and well-being.

In that spirit, we are introducing the Bluegrass State Games Torch Run. We would like to see the BGSG community come together (with 6 feet of spacing, of course) to celebrate the 35th anniversary of this great event that has seen so many participants over the years.

Challenge yourself and complete 35 miles (one for every year the Bluegrass State Games have been in existence) by August 2nd.

With the 2020 Bluegrass State Games cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, your financial gift will make a significant impact towards ensuring that the Games are able to continue serving our community in its athletic pursuits beyond 2020.

The Bluegrass State Games is sensitive to the fact that the coronavirus is having an affect on all of our lives, but if you are in a position to donate, your support is greatly appreciated.

We also invite you to share this on social media and encourage others to participate. Please make sure to tag us at BGStateGames and use #BGSGTorchRun.
